Okay, to really get your head around phase, we need to move beyond the on/off perspective we just outlined. Phase is quite literally a relationship of degrees. In other words, our “out of phase” sine wave has a 180° phase relationship to its mirrored counterpart. Were we to gently move our duplicate sine wave through all degree positions in the phase relationship, we’d encounter different degrees of cancellation, and therefore different degrees of amplification and attenuation — from silence to peak volume and everything in between.
Evan Zwisler is a NYC-based musician who is most notably known for his work with The Values as a songwriter and guitarist. He is an active member of the Brooklyn music scene, throwing fundraisers and organizing compilations for Planned Parenthood and the Anti-Violence Project. In the story, Lulu is loved by many, but manipulates her lovers, moving from one to the next. At the height of her adoration, her fortunes begin to fall: she’s chased by the police, imprisoned, forced into prostitution, and then eventually murdered. To drive this musical and thematic symmetry home, Berg specified that the actors that play her first three lovers are the same actors that play her last three clients when she is a prostitute. This dramatic palindrome dovetails with the musical palindrome: Berg’s marriage of disturbing musical formalism with dramatic technique highlights Wedekind’s unearthing of the violence within patriarchal sexuality.

As for listening, I love heavy grooves, but I also love music with a huge sound and epic quality, which could be anything from a John Williams film score to Ella Fitzgerald singing with a bombastic big band, to massive EDM and other electronic tracks—I think they have more in common aurally than most might realize.
If you are submitting a track to a publisher to be considered for the music collection they will be pitching for an upcoming Netflix series, should you have your song mastered? Absolutely! If you have a full album mixed and ready to release on iTunes to share with the world should it be mastered? Definitely! In cases where you need to put your best foot forward, producing a fully mixed and mastered song will be the best way to go, every time.

“I Like It”: The intro here begins with a two-bar fade-in of non-loop material — yet even with these two bars, they still decide to keep the whole intro to a tidy eight bars. There’s a nice little post-verse thingy after the second verse. You can spot it by its chromatic walk-down piano motif, four quarter notes a step. This motif comes back for another post-verse that’s simply the title refrain a bunch, and then a half-chorus. Pretty inventive since half-choruses are rare, but here it’s easy to do as the chorus was already written in two parts!

Turning now to the educators themselves. Technology can and should also be used to open the minds of those responsible for inspiring the minds of the next generation. We’ve come a long way in education, both as a result of advancements in technology and independent of it completely. And to recognize that our classrooms are not simply about handing over a textbook’s worth of knowledge also comes with the responsibility of adaption and providing a space for constant curiosity.
It may sound corny or cliché, it may sound like bad advice at first, but “fake it til you make it” is one of the core tennets of visualizing your success.
Passive pickups are built by wrapping a magnet in multiple coils of copper wire, it’s the oldest form of guitar amplification. Active pickups still use copper coils like passive pickups, but fewer of them, since they incorporate a battery-powered preamp to boost the signal level.
